    Hello,

I’ve a customized theme but now is outdated (didn’t create any child theme before). I have just created a child theme with your plugin and need to transform the customization I made before to the child to update my theme to the latest version.

I’m following the steps you mention in your FAQ section “How to Create Child Themes After You Have Made Changes to an Existing Parent Theme”.

Everything looks fine till the tricky part number 4. I’m trying to understand what you are writing but I don’t.

    My question:

I need to understand which 2 files you are talking about in this part: (The best way to do this is to download your modified “style.css” file from the parent and run a comparison (DIFF) against the original parent “style.css” file.)

1- your modified “style.css” file from the parent –> Is it the custmized & outdated parent theme that I want to transform its styles to the newly created child?

2- against the original parent –> Is it the original theme file that is never customized before (updated)?

    One more question please.
I mistakenly activated the theme in step 2. But before doing step 3, I have deactivated it. Can this cause any problem to the full process?

    Thanks so much.

    Regards..

This assessment is correct. You want to find the differences between the original (uncustomized) version of the theme and the modified (customized) version of the theme and move them to the new child theme stylesheet.

Activating and deactivating a theme does not affect this process. In some cases, the “theme mods” (customizer settings) are initialized for the child theme when it is activated, but you can always change them, either by using the “copy” option during the configuration, or by using the Customizer.
