• Hello – I’m having trouble figuring out how to add some small icon .jpg’s next to some links for social networking sites. Basically I have a “Networking” category on my site’s sidebar and under that I have several links to Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, etc. I have found some small icon pictures representative of those sites that I would like to display next to their respective links. It currently looks like this:

    Facebook
    MySpace
    LinkedIn

I would like it to look like this:

    Facebook [Icon]
    MySpace [Icon]
    LinkedIn [Icon]

I can’t seem to figure out how to do this.

I have the pictures uploaded to my host and they are ready and able to be referenced. I’m guessing I need to make some sort of HTML code addition/change in the Theme Editor, but after browsing through several of the theme file templates (including sidebar.php), I can’t seem to find the appropriate place to make changes to get this all working.

I’d really appreciate your help! Thank you.

By the way, I should add I’m using the WordPress Default theme 1.6 by Michael Heilemann.

  • I’m guessing I need to make some sort of HTML code addition/change in the Theme Editor,

Wrong guess. Look around in your own admin panel in the links section/writing. Isn’t ther an advanced > image url field???
Knowing your tool is always a big advantage…

Well, that sort of works – the .jpg file shows up now, but the link text itself does not show at all once you set an image file in advanced properties of the link. Therefore, it’s not showing up how I illustrated above.

Then that’s a bug. I didn’t use it for ages – but it worked as you described what you want.

    Actually it didn’t.

    What I have now is

    [Icon]
    [Icon]
    [Icon]

    Instead of:

    Facebook [Icon]
    MySpace [Icon]
    LinkedIn [Icon]

Which is what I originally was looking for.

I “guess” there’s some sort of template code that can fix this. Maybe someone else will take a look into this as it’s not yet working correctly.
