We have implemented 2-factor authentication for the email account that we are using in the WP Mail SMTP plugin and now the emails sent through our Contact Form are failing to be sent.
I’ve read through other people’s posts to the forum but I’m still not sure how we need to update the settings in the WP Mail SMTP plugin to accommodate the 2-factor authentication for our email account. Do we need to update the password to be the App Password? Do we need to add an additional authentication somewhere?
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

I figured out how to get this working. I needed to use the “App Password” instead of the account password in the setup.

Hi @jstepak – I’m glad you sorted it out. Yes, for most email accounts, you’ll need App password if you’ve 2-factor authentication enabled. Could you please let me know what is the email account you’re authenticating?

Thanks, and have a good one!

I’m having the same issue. What is the difference between an account password and an app password?

    Thanks

    Hi @abigaildodsonbfa,

The account password is for logging into your account on the provider’s website.

The app passwords are usually used for 3rd party apps like our plugin. It’s more secure since the app password usually can’t be used for logging into the account like an account password is. So these app passwords only allow access for integrations, like APIs for example.

    Take care!
