Need help creating blog template

Hi there,
I am working with a developer style theme because I needed something simple. However, I do not know PHP and I really need some help creating 1 page templates. I have already referenced the page templates section and it was helpful, but I am still unclear about the php language.

1.) blog page – I need a sidebar on the right side and a loop that will show posts.

The way the theme is set up is kind of interesting. There are no page templates. You can choose to enable left sidebar or right sidebar, but it will show that way on every page if you do.
