Hello! I’m hoping someone can help me figure out the best shipping solution to use for this client. Their product comes in 5-, 15-, and 30-gallon drums. They have the weight and dimensions for each of these individually, BUT once the order hits a certain quantity and combination of drum sizes, the order would need to be shipped by pallet. I’m not sure how best to set this up and what shipping plugin might be able to handle this, as there are many caveats:

For instance: 5 or more of 30-gallon drums would need to go on a pallet. 30 or more of 5-gallon drums would need to ship by pallet. Then it gets more complicated if people order several of different drum sizes and it’s a mix…

Is there a way to set up a “volume” for one pallet… And if there are size dimensions set for each individual tank, and the quantity of ANY combination of these tanks is met based on the volume of the pallet, it activates pallet shipping? He wants to use UPS Freight. I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around the best way to approach this setup. I’d appreciate any advise or suggestions of how I can utilize Woo’s built-in shipping settings, or use a plugin that could handle bulks, or a combo of both.

Thanks so much for any help.

    Marion

  • Hey there, @macmare! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

I recommend using Table Rate Shipping. With this plugin you can add several shipping rules, so you would be able to set it up to work how this client needs.

We provide support for this plugin and you also have a 30-day money-back guarantee to test it out ??

If you want to know more about it you can check the documentation guide here, or open a Presales support ticket here.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

Hi again, I’m reopening this ticket because I purchased the Table Rate Shipping plugin but now the client has changed what they want to do. Can you tell me if I still need Table Rate Shipping, another plugin altogether or if the default Shipping Classes could be used on the following rules?

They sell 5-, 15- and 30-gallon buckets of chemicals. I have 11 products set up with a Size variation with those sizes.

If 15 and 30 gallons are selected, they want NO shipping calculated and a message displayed at checkout that they will be contacted with final shipping cost.

If 5-gallon is selected, they want to calculate rates via UPS (I know I need to purchase that plugin). They will supply me the box dimensions for those 5-gallon buckets.

Can you walk me through how to set this up? Setting up shipping rules is definitely not my strong suit, so I’d appreciate any help.

    Thank you!

    Hi @macmare, welcome back!

Complex shipping requirements can be a little trickier to configure initially. For this specific request, I suggest you log into your WooCommerce.com account, and submit a Presales request via the Get support tab for a more thorough answer (please include the URL to this forum thread for context).

In short, for the approach you described above, the Table Rate Shipping extension might not be needed. Here are two alternative suggestions:

First: with the Conditional Shipping and Payments extension you can configure restrictions along the lines of “If 15 or 30 Gallon products are in the cart, hide all shipping methods except for TBC, and show the Get a Quote payment method“. You’ll configure a “TBC” shipping method which can be a renamed Free shipping method, and a “Get a quote” payment gateway, which can be a renamed COD payment method. That will allow customers to check out without paying anything. The order can then be manually edited by the store manager, to add the correct shipping. Once updated, the payment link can be sent to the customer for payment. The link above has a Demo link, which will create an actual site on which you can experiment with it.

Second: conceptually similar to the above, but more niche in its functionality is Contact for Shipping Quote for WooCommerce. It achieves the same purpose with less configuration and also allows a customer to rather submit an order for quote than purchase it outright. The documentation goes into further details.

I hope that above is useful and helps you towards your goal. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you, that is very useful information, I didn’t know about either of those. I will contact the Table Rate Shipping plugin developers to see if I can get a refund. Thanks so much for your help!
