Need help for creating microsites with wordpress

  • Hi all,

    This is first time I am creating micro-sites in wordpress. My project have one landing page with diff menus in header. And Menu is a micro-site. All micro-sites have different layout. All micro-sites will have around 20 pages.

    I am quite confused about how to do it? Should I use ‘page templates for this one’? I think its not much difficult for me, but it will be difficult for admin to manage all in one place. It will be quite messy.

    Please help me with your suggestions.

  • In other words, you’re creating a site which would be turned over to someone else who’ll be maintaining the site? I see different ways to approach your microsite. It depends on what kind of microsites you have and how they are related – or not. Also depends on what kind of functionality, if any, is required specific to each microsite. Info on options below are available in Codex or you can search online for additional tutorials if needed.

    1. Pages – Page Templates, as you mentioned above
    Admin must always choose “Parent Page” and “Page Template” before publishing post in Page Write Panel.

    2. Custom Post Type – Custom Post Type Single Templates
    Admin menu set up for Admin to choose which post type will be added on to or updated.

    3. Category – Category Templates
    Admin goes to Write > Post and chooses Category of said content/article.

    4. Create A Network – WordPress Multisite
    Total control for each “microsite” via different theme per subsite or can use child theme with diferent layout per subsite. Could be overkill though. Overkill, but cool ??
