• I purchased and attempted to install a template program called One-Theme today. Once I loaded up the program files to the plugins folder and themes folder, the next step was to activate it. This failed numerous times and I decided to stop trying.

The problem is that it appears the deleting the folders is not enough. I am not able to see my site or even access the dashboard. I feel sick about it.

Can someone give me an idea of how I can restore my site? I don’t mind if there is a little bit of work involved. I’m just hoping I don’t have to reinstall WP from scratch and lose the work that I had done.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with advice.

    A more specific question maybe…

What file(s) is modified when a new theme is installed?

No files are modified ever. (Unless you over-wrote something).
However, activated plugins (and you did mention plugins!) can insert their own tables into the database, sometimes they can modify existing tables.
And if this theme is something different than the usual themes – it might have also script that messes with the database.

Remember: your most precious thing in your blog is your database – there is nothing in the files…

Have you contacted One-Theme support? If you paid for it, there should be support.

Thanks moshu. I was afraid of that. Well… I hate to do it, but I’m going to scrap it and reinstall. I have enough of my content saved so that reinstall should only take me a couple of hours. Not sure I have any other options.

I appreciate your input and quick response.

Yes. I followed their initial suggestions… didn’t get resolution and got frustrated. I believe the problem involves an add-on program they use that requires my server company to make a settings change for it to work effectively.

If I had known about those requirements ahead of time, I wouldn’t have bought it.

So, I’m not going to try and fix the one-theme installation. I’m now just trying to figure out how to take it off and restore my site to where it was before I installed it.

but I’m going to scrap it and reinstall.

As one of the knowledgeable helpers often mentions: this ain’t Windows and reinstalling it rarely solves anything…
If you have DB backup from before the incident, just restore the database backup.

How does one backup the db?
