• I have a very strange problem that I don’t notice in any other websites on the web. Here’s my webpage:

    411posters.com

I’m using the twenty eleven theme.

When I minimize my webpage window, and drag it smaller and smaller with my mouse, my whole webpage resizes itself and crunches everything up. It takes my left column widgets and throws it to the very bottom of the page. This also happens when viewing my webpage on my iphone.

In normal cases, while minimizing your webpage and dragging it smaller with your mouse, nothing of the webpage would change and a horizontal slider bar on the bottom of the webpage would appear. On my webpage, this doesn’t happen. A horizontal slider never appears.

    please help, I’m stumped!

  • In normal cases,

this is normal for Twenty Eleven, i.e. intended by design, as it is styled into the ‘responsive’ section near the end of style.css.

you can overwrite this with you own custom css; see for example my article.

Thank you for the help so far. However this still is a bit over my head. I am new to web/blogging and have been playing catchup this past week. So far I am limited to simple html commands. What is “child theme”? and do I need to set one up before I proceed with any edits to teh default Twenty Eleven theme? thank you again for the help so far

it is important to have an unedited default theme (in the case of wp3.2, this is Twenty Eleven) as a fallback in case of theme problems; also, any customisation on the default theme (Twenty Eleven) wil be overwritten when you upgrade your wordpress version.

    for child themes, see: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes
there is also a small section in one of my other articles.
