Need help with custom post types and taxonomies

  • Need a little help with custom post types and taxonomies.

    I have a theme that is built for a specific niche (cars) but I would like to use it for a real estate website.

    The theme has some custom post types and taxonomies such as year, make, model, price, VIN, etc. and this data is displayed on the listings of cars.

    I would like to rename these custom post types and taxonomies to make them more relevant to my site such as sq. yards, number of rooms, total area, built up area, etc, etc..

    how can this be done without editing the core theme files?
