In a nutshell: I want wordpress to me installed on the root and it won’t let me do it. It tells me to delete something that seems important.

I have a Just Host webhosting and it has wordpress in it. And the install seems fairly easy. And I’ve had no problems with that.

My problem is: the only way I can install it is when I add a word to it. Like right now I have https://www.domain.com/comic

I wanted it to be on the root of the domain so it’s just: domain.com

It’s telling me that I can’t do that because there can’t be two things installed on the root. And it’s telling me to Delete something, but what it’s telling me to delete seems to be way too important for me to delete…. (it’s telling me to delete the public file? Something like that).

I tried moving it to see if it would help but it didn’t. So if anyone can help me I’d be extremely great-full!

  • well until we get the exact message – hard to say
    don’t be vague

normally, it tells you there can’t be 2 index files
do you have an index.html in the root?

Can you please quote exactly what it’s telling you to delete?

    Edit: Too slow. ??

I’m so sorry. I was at my job and couldn’t reply.

Here’s the message it gives me:

The installation can not be completed:

    – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

Click on the browser’s Back button to fix reported errors.

    — It used to tell me something different, but this is what it tells me now.

What it used to tell me was to delete this: public_html file.

That’s relatively easy to fix. Follow the instructions in this thread:

Ok I did what it said on the other one but now it’s giving me this message again:

The installation can not be completed:

    – You chose to install in the main directory of the domain magicmico.com, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain magicmico.com (path=”/home/magicmi1/public_html/”).You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
    index.php

—– should I delete that file? It seems like it’s an important one.

Also sorry if I don’t answer quickly, I have to go to class. Thanks for all the help so far!

did you install wordpress in your root before this? or do you have a running site using this domain?

if you installed wordpress in root before and uninstalled it or deleted the installation, it’s safe to delete the index.php file.

if you are running a site before in the domain using index.php file and you no longer need it then, it’s safe to delete it.

to make sure, why don’t you open up the index.php file and see what the contents are. that way you’d have a better idea of what that index.php file does.

Thanks for the help guys but I’m still having problems.

This is what’s happening. I deleted the fantastico thing that was mentioned on the other help forum. It comes back by itself.

Then I deleted the index thing after checking it out to see if it was anything important. And it was good. So THEN I tried installing wordpress and this is the message I got.

    Install WordPress (3/3)

Warning: fopen(/home/magicmi1/public_html/fantastico_fileslist.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico//includes/enc_installation_func.inc.php on line 174

DO NOT REMOVE the file named fantastico_fileslist.txt from the installation directory. It is used for uninstalling this application.

So that’s what I got.. and when I go to the site magicmico.com there’s nothing there at all. it says “oops cannot be found”. I’m just really not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Oh and again sorry if I don’t answer quickly, I got work in a bit. Thanks again.
