• I need help with my Blog before I start marketing it!

    My ideas so far:
    -Add pictures/videos to posts (can I add free pictures easily to posts? The plug in I installed didn’t work well!)

    -Add a Forum (weight loss help groups, etc)

    -Add Google Friend Connect (Is this any good?)

    Any suggestions on how I can add my ideas to my site? ALSO…any other suggestions for my blog? I feel like I am missing something.

    Tell me what you honestly think: https://www.skinnytwinkie.com
    (health and fitness site)
    GOAL:
    -I want readers to comment more on my posts
    -Want readers to WANT to come back (most visitors per Google Analytics are first time visitors that seemed to have gone to my site on accident. Either way, they aren’t finding a need to come back…)

    suggestions?

    Thank you all for your help! ??

    anyone…?

    such a nice concept. keep it up. keep adding content for increase traffic.

    looks good. I think if you just kept adding new posts and content you would eventually find some followers. Forums can attract a group of people and encourage visitors to chat together, but blog comments also do the same thing. If you are not getting frequent comments don’t expect a forum to pick up the pace by its own. you might consider researching SEO topics and seeing what can be applied to your site.

    First, you don’t need a plugin to add media to your posts. WP does that right out-of-the-box.

    As for your site, here are my initial observations:

    1. Your post frequency is too spread out. If you want regular visitors, then you’ll need to provide fresh content on a more regular basis. When trying to gain traction early on, posting everyday is probably your best bet.

    2. Your “about” page is vague and actually looks fake to me. There’s nothing that tells me that you’re an expert in your niche.

    3. If you really want more comments, there several ways to do this. One is promoting yourself by commenting on other sites in your niche. Usually those with similar maturity (close Alexa and PR) would gladly reciprocate.

    I would advise to you use pictures in your posts as much as you can, text post and picture post have a hell of difference in term of attracting people to read.

    Thank you everyone for your help!!! ??

    @gabeyoung, I was writing every day (see previous posts) then life took over and I havent been posting regularly for the last 3 months or so. Also…I am not sure what you mean by “fake” on the About Page? I am not licensed…so I am not sure how I can portray that I am an expert…I am very knowledgeable when it comes to health/fitness. Any additional advice?

    @hitman, My goal is to have a picture (or video) for every post! ??

    @ablincom, thank you for the kind words. I need it!

    Again…THANK YOU for your feedback!

    No doubt, it’s hard to keep up with content on a site. We all have a lot going on but if you can’t provide regular updates, there are other things you can do like getting guest posters and such. Just saying, if your goal is to get people to keep coming back, fresh content plays a pretty big role.

    As for the about page, it looks like something I would read on a spam site. It’s important to have a brand identity and for blogs, often times it’s you. You don’t use your name and don’t have much in terms of real background. Just stating that you’ve done some research won’t make your site any different from the millions of health blogs out there already. Additionally, you’re also competing with the big boys on these topics.

    Perhaps you could include before/after pictures, your real name, what you’ve improved on (e.g. number of push-ups, running faster, more endurance), examples of who you’ve helped, etc…

    At the end of the day, you have to think: what makes my site so different from all others out there doing the same thing? In many cases, it’s going to be you and your ability to build relationships with your readers.

    Hello, great start and good content. Here are my comments. They are negative because those are the ones that help. Encouragement is fine, but suggestions bring improvement.

    1. I don’t like the bullet points at the beginning under your horizontal page menu. Put the following items somewhere else.
    * Don’t buy Temptations!
    * Skinny Tip #6
    * Skinny Tip #5
    * Review: The Biggest Loser Season 8 Week 9
    * Skinny Tip #4
    2. I am viewing at 1600×1200. The right side column is too wide compared to the center column. I know you are doing it because of the double column below but it makes the single Categories section look funky.
    3. Figure out how to align your blog title and byline, your page menu, and post title/text. It will visually clean up your ‘first look.’

    Beat up my site if you desire. I got a recommendation to increase my line height the other day and it has helped my site.

    Thank you everyone for your comments… I need help so I appreciate your honesty! I plan on fixing the LOOK of my site…then once I have that figured out I will start posting again (on a much more regular basis…like Monday – Friday)

    I will work on making it more personable…but “Twinkie” is my nickname believe it or not ??

    Before and after…? I don’t have pictures to really show the difference, but I remember the numbers on the scale!

    I will post again once I have some updates so you can see the difference!

    Thanks all ??
