• I deleted a line in the Sela footer.php file not realizing I could not undo my actions. Now I have messed it up. Can someone cut and paste their Sela footer.php file and send to me? Thank you, Helen at [ redacted, support is not offered via email, Skype, IM etc. only in the forums ]

  • You can re-download Sela to get a fresh copy of the footer file by clicking the Download button here:

If you need to make theme file tweaks in future, the best way to do that is to use a child theme, so your tweaks won’t be overwritten every time you update the theme. It also allows you to easily revert back to the parent theme anytime. Here are some guides in case you haven’t made one before:

    Hi Kathryn,

Correct me if I am wrong but if I download a fresh copy of Sela it will change my website to the pink stripe and all my other changes will have to be redone?

    Helen

Not if you just replace footer.php – don’t upload any of the other files, just that one.

Did you change any of the files directly?

If you did edit the theme files directly, then you’ll first need to recopy any footer.php changes into the fresh copy of footer.php.

As a better long-term fix I recommend you move your tweaks into a child theme.

Yes I changed the colours on the mainpage. This is my first .org wordpress website – I am used to the .com – so this was a dangerous move! So I should Download Sela from that link and grab the code I need and then close it? I wanted to remove the social pink circles – there was two of them there that I couldn’t remove using Customize so I thought I would take them out manually.

Okay I did it! Breathing again! Thank you!

    Great!

If you’re still trying to remove the two social icons in the footer, you can head to your menu management area under Appearance > Menu, and unassign the social menu from your theme entirely, by unchecking the box underneath it. The social menu is meant for links to your social-media profiles, like Twitter or Facebook – it’s not meant for regular pages on your site. Let me know if that does the trick!
