I have a wordpress multisite installed (using the cPanel Softaculous installer ‘cause I’m lazy) under HTTPS via a wildcard cert.
I have several add-on domains that I want to run under that multisite using the MU Domain Mapping plug-in, but these must run under HTTP obviously or else they will generate certificate mismatch errors.

How can I achieve this? In other words, how can I set up multisite so that my add-on domains run under HTTP, while regular subdomains of the main multisite domain run under HTTPS where my wildcard cert is valid?

I have tried various doodlings with the .htaccess file but I have not yet found a ModRewrite-based solution that works. Also, the single add-on domain that I have installed so far comes up with its permalinks as HTTPS by default. Can I change that someplace? I’ve been scouring the docu and googling but I’ve not hit on the magic search phrase yet nor otherwise found an answer.

    I’m hoping I don’t have to completely re-install the multisite under HTTP…?
