Need Page Excerpts to show in Search results

Hi,

When pages return in search results, the auto “excerpt” is lousy- see link to current search results. For example, my “About” page returns the text “Countries I’ve Visited Green indicates …” which is text pretty far down the page (actual My Story is above). To fix this, I’ve added a code snippet to allow excerpts on pages (rather than just posts). This field now appears in pages in WordPress, and I’ve filled it in, but it doesn’t get picked up by search. How do I tell wordpress search that pages now have an excerpt field, and to use it? In Gutenberg editor, theme is Essence.
