Need Portfolio Functionality

I’m in architecture and need a better way to display a portfolio of images for a series of projects. Currently I am using MobileMe which is not adequate in the lack of a professional presentation, smallish images and slow load times.

Anyone have recommendations?

Do the new beta themes for Base have additional functionality with respect to this? if so is there a way to see it?

Also, at one point I saw a portfolio that allowed you to “page through” the items in a very nice way. Does anyone have any recommendations for this?
