Need Private Section with associated Login Page

I need to have a private section (members only) of my site. And to get there, the user must be challenged with a login page that is visible to all users. In other words, the public site will have a button or link on the home page showing “Employee Login”
How is this feature accomplished? Any recommended plugins?
