    Hi All,

I’ve created a site. But my site is still not indexed due to no meta tags i guess.

So, from SEO point of view, could anybody tell me, how to and where to add the meta tags and how to increase search engine ranking. Should i need to use any plugin?

    Thanks

  • This is one area where using a plugin is a must. Adding meta tags just doesn’t cut it these days. Search engines got wise to people simply stuffing tags in their pages.

Try Yoast WordPress SEO. It has a 4.7-star rating and has been downloaded 11 million times. I find it very comprehensive and it has worked well for me.

@electric feet: By using this plugin, will it finish the job of SEO for my site or do i need to do some additional thing.

    Thanks

It will do the search engine optimization for you— adding all the tags so that Google et al will find you and read your posts as they are updated etc.

There are other refinements you can make that are not strictly SEO. For instance so that the search engines can pick up your opening hours, telephone number etc. This is achieved by tagging the relevant text in your page. This allows people to type (for example, from my site) dario alfonsi opening hours in Google and Google will open a box with the hours in it.

Google webmaster tools will explain it for you. It also allows you to tell Google that your site is now online and ready for business and to crawl it. (But use this “power” carefully–only when you’re really ready. You don’t get to do it at will.)

@electric feet: Actually, i’m using google webmaster tools, but, it hasn’t indexed a single page till now from my site (Its been a month ago for my domain getting registered). It hasn’t crawled any data so far.

I don’t know what is the problem in google webmaster tools for my site.

Yeah, i’ve seen your site for hours. It looks pretty good and make sense.

You need to get the SEO sorted (by installing the WordPress SEO plugin) and then do the markup for the hours etc (as explained in the webmaster tools). Only then should you tell Google to index (crawl) your site.

Another thing you can do is use Google tools for business owners, to tell Google that you are the owner of the business. They will send you a postcard with a verification number that you add to the WordPress SEO panels. That way, Google knows you’re the valid owner of the business at that address and gives you a higher ranking. More details here: https://support.google.com/business/answer/2911778?hl=en

But there are no magic bullets. Ultimately, Google ranks your site based on the number of people who want to go there, so it’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation at the beginning. Good content is the ultimate arbiter.

@electric feet: Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.

A pleasure. There’s nothing else to do with it ??

How do I add a meta description to the main page of Customizr in WordPress SEO by Yoast?
