• Ok..so I have been using blogger for the past year. I purchased a domain name from URLFreedom.com, and I’ve had it for 9 months.

However, I want to make the transition to wordpress. I just purchased a wordpress hosting plan from siteground.com. I have installed WordPress with the help of Fantastico. However, I have not transfered my domain name yet. Do I have to?

I want to be able to WORK on my wordpress blog, while keeping up my blogger blog until I am done working on it. However, whenever I try logging into my WordPress account here: https://www.freebieshark.com/wp-login.php it won’t let me access that page..is it because of Blogger?

I need some help here. I am kinda lost.. To sum it up, I want to be able to KEEP my blogger blog up, and still be able to work on my wordpress blog. Also- do I need to transfer my domain? Any help? Step by step would be awesome!

    Thanks!!

  • Does your host offer a temporary domain name? You will have to transfer your domain name eventually. Or invest in a new domain name.

So bottom line is that I NEED to transfer my domain name in order to use WP on my new hosting package?

    Thank you so much

Longer term, yes. But you could use a temporary domain name whilst you’re setting up your WP site. At least that leaves your blogger site functioning whilst you’re preparing the new site.

I would like to do a similar thing–work on a new WP site while letting my old site continue functioning. I want to be able to use the old site’s domain name for the new site–is that simply a matter of redirecting the name server on the old site’s hosting control panel?

Woodruff, the best thing to do would be to install WordPress in a sub directory, like yourdomain.com/newblog/ . When you’re done setting it up, it’s not too difficult to move it to yourdomain.com .

Instead of using Yahoo for my host, I was planning on setting up new hosting with BlueHost or one of the recommended WordPress hosts.

In that case, you should probably switch hosts before starting work on your new blog.
