    HI,

A friend of mine has asked if i can help him create a secure online database for his business. His only requirement is that he can access on his tablet / phone. They was to store some details on various people they employ to make it wasier to match them up with projects.

I was thinking that wordpress would make for a good start, but as i am a newbie here and there are so many great plugins, I have come here, cap in hand to ask for some advice.

    Hi Ian,

By ‘online database for business’ do you mean you want to create a ‘people listing / directory website‘ where your friend will list multiple people with details? and what exactly do you mean by ‘access only via phone’ ? does it mean that the admin (your friend) should be able to access the website on mobile (WordPress is mobile friendly by default in terms of compatibility and also has an App you can use to manage your website), or it needs to be restricted for anyone who is not coming to the site from a Mobile device?

    Hi Prashant,

Yes, essential thats it. He uses a tablet more than a mobie phone. But he would want to access from both, probably using a browser hence why I thouhgt about using wordpress.

The system would need to support upto 5 admins, and also a feature for authorised people (members) to access the data and possibly make changes and update it.

    Hi Ian,

Yes, you can certainly use WordPress for the same, you can create different access roles such as Administrator, Editor, Author, etc. which will have access restricted accordingly.

To start, you can use Business Directory Plugin and then extend the solution from there.

You will find many plugins in the directory suitable for your requirements as you go further.
