need to upgrade ancient version, advice please

I have an old version of wordpress (2.0.2) that I would like to bring up to date. I read something on here that said not to upgrade more than 2 versions at a time, so go from 2.0 to 2.2 then to 2.4 etc. I really don’t have the patience for that many upgrades! I was hoping maybe someone has tried a bigger jump than that from 2.0 with success before. Or can maybe can give me some tips on some possible database mods or other hacks that might help. Thanks!
