Hi there, I’m finding this issue v confusing,
I have a WordPress site https://thecreativeplayground.co.uk/CV/ (thecreativeplayground.co.uk is my server space which is hosted on Bluehost and I would like to run my site under the URL https://stellamarshall.co.uk). I was initially told told that a domain redirect would help but I have tried that and stellamarshall.co.uk just loaded as a bluehost page as there are no files attached to it.
So how do I get the full WordPress site thecreativeplayground.co.uk/CV to fully work under the new domain https://stellamarshall.co.uk ?
I would like some step by step guides as I’m v confused and a bit worried about messing up the wordpress site.
How would would log into the site too after I have changed the URL

    Regards,
    Ian

    Hi Ian,

There are some pretty good guides here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress

Thanks, but that’s where I’m confused which one to chose.
Which is the most suitable ?

    Thanks

There is a very highly regarded plugin called “DUPLICATOR” that helps with the moving WordPress process. Between the plugin, its doco and the support forum for the plugin I think you will be well equipped.

Unfortunately questions like “Which is the most suitable” always depend upon your situation. If you have particular issues then you can start a thread, always detailing your specific issues.

Hi Ross, thanks for your reply – as you can read at the top of my thread as to what my specific problem is. I’m pretty new to wordpress and am finding what I need to do really confusing.
There are many ways it seems to move a wordpress site to another domain I just need specific instructions as I’m not sure which is the best route to take
    Thanks

If you are going to use your bluehost to host both you could create an addon domain for stellarmarshal.co.uk. This will create a new directory.

To move wordpress there you would copy the files from where there are now to the new directory.

In this scenario its on the save server so the database wouldn’t need to change so you would just then need to change the url.

I had almost lost my contents after taking backup of my cricket blog https://cricxpert.com as I took backup with softaculous and after shifting to new VPS I wasn’t able to restore that backup.

To make it happen, I came to know that what you require is to take backup of your directory WP-content from CPANEL and a database backup. You can export function from phpmyadmin.

Just install WordPress on your new server, import your database and place wp-content directory usig cpanel or ftp client.

Now you can see everything you have for your website, just go to themes and activate your theme that is already there in dashboard.

Hi wpjobz, thank you for the reply.

So this is the easiest way?
    1. Create an addon domain for stellarmarshal.co.uk, thus creating a new directory.
    2. Copy files. How do I do that?
    3. Change URL.
Sory to be asking such basic questions but I’m really a beginner at this.

Appreciate it very much though wpjobz.

    Thanks

BTW, using the Duplicator plugin mentioned above would be easier.

Use the duplicator to copy the files to the new directory?

Also, make sure that you backup your entire site and database before doing anything!

Thanks again WPyogi – the Duplicator worked a treat. Really appreciate all yours (and everyone elses) helpful efforts.

    Cheers
