Needing the_post_thumbnail to have its own attachment-like page

There is a filter you can use to get and modify the HTML for a post thumbnail:

So you can write a filter function to hook that and add whatever HTML you need to wrap it with a link to the image’s attachment page.

Thanks, Steven! I’m afraid that I couldn’t write a function, filter, or hook if my life depended on it. While I’m sure what you’re saying is exactly what I need, I wouldn’t know how to compile all that to make sense ??

Damn, this works! Normally I can kinda tell how something might work once I study it, but I can’t tell what this is doing. Can you explain it to me?

Also, would I just edit the attachment.php in order to layout the look of this?

The code is a filter. It gets the html and id of the attachment from the post_thumbnail function, modifies the html as shown, and returns it to the post_thumbnail function.

You can edit attachment.php in your theme (or a child theme) to change what layout cannot be changed via custom CSS.
