    Hi Tobias,

My site uses your wonderful plugin extensively.

    https://www.madashellboycott.com

I would like to call up a different plug ins shortcode [emailpetition id=”55″] by inserting it into a cell within my spreadsheet and then importing that code into the spreadsheet using your short code. [table-cell id=4 cell=D2 /] were D2 would contain the short code [emailpetition id=”xx”]

When I do this, all I get is the text “[emailpetition id=”xx”]” where I would like to have the emailpetition page show up…

Is this possible? Does my description of the problem make sense?

The desired results are here: https://www.madashellboycott.com/petitions/the-dirty-dozen/1-dd/ But this page I manually updated the text and did not use your shortcode.

    Hi Tobias,

I have taken 30 steps backwards before I took one step forward today.

I have found that the wrong space character is actually coming from the email petitions home page in wordpress. I have been using the Email Petitions home page that lists all petitions to copy the short code to insert into my spreadsheets. Assuming that because the plugin generated the shortcodes I could copy them. Apparently not…

I could have sworn that I saw the consultant dude that I spent all that money on double click those shortcodes and use them.

This is what I found out today. If I copy the shortcode that is displayed on the Email Petitions top level (home page) [emailpetition id=”70″] and past this code directly into the Divi module where I wanted to use the nested TablePress code, the wrong space character is there, and the shortcode does not run.

When I correct the shortcode [emailpetition id=”70″] in Divi by deleting the space and enter one from my keyboard, the code runs properly on the page.

Does this make any sense to you?

Is it improper to copy the [emailpetition id=”70″] shortcode from the Email Petitions homepage like that?

    Thanks again for your time.

    Regards,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

this is a great find! Yes, that would totally be possible and would explain all the problems that you had.
This might have been caused by a simple typo in the PHP code of that emailpetition plugin, so that I suggest that you ask the author to fix it.

Copying Shortcodes like you did is the correct procedure.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Unfortunately as far as I can tell the EmailPetion plugin is not being updated or supported anymore. The author seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.

As I may have mentioned before, I did not choose this plugin, I had help to get my site to the point it is at. That help is now not available, so I am swimming in waters that are very foreign to me.

Makes me appreciate all the help you have supplied.

Thanks again, for all the insightful tips, suggestions, and help.

    Best wishes,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

sorry for the long delay, I was on holidays and could not reply earlier.

This fix should not be difficult, it should be possible to do this without the original developer. You will just need to find the part where the Shortcode that you copy is generated and then fix the space character there.

    Hi Tobias,

Trust all is going well with you and yours.

I just went through a big update of my website. I found a current plug in for the Email petitions and created about 140 new pages based on both your plug in and the new SpeakOut petitions plug in.

Unfortunately, the same formatting error that you fixed with the first plug in (SpeakUp) has re-appeared. The new plug in SpeakOut is a fork of the original SpeakUp plug in that is no longer being supported. I have updated my site to the newer supported SpeakOut email plug in.

In reading back through the posts I thought you put the required code into your plug in so that any new pages I made would have the code in it. Is this true?

Or do I need to insert your code into the new pages somewhere?

Thanks again for all your support.

    Steve

Hey all, I just received a notification about this thread. My name is Steve too and I am the person who forked speakup to SpeakOut! It has had quite a few updates since I did that.

If there are any problems directly associated with SpeakOut! can you add them to the SpeakOut! support forum please and I will check them out.

    Oh…it’s you Steve…didn’t realise :o)

    Hi,

if I recall correctly, this was the solution for the issue:

    Hi Tobias,

You are correct, that was the solution, but when I couldn’t locate the “functions.php” file, and you already had access to my website you did this.

    Hi,

As I still had the account that you created, I now made this change. The form on https://www.madashellboycott.com/test-boycott-lists-page/ should now have the correct styling ??

However, instead of adding it to the theme, I added it to the Single Cell Shortcode TablePress Extension. That way, you won’t have to worry about theme updates.

Our conversations led me to do some more research on Speakup, and indeed Speakup has been abandoned and is no longer supported, BUT that research lead me to SpeakOut. Steve (123host) at SpeakOut started with the abandoned SpeakUp plug in and is moving forward.

I upgraded to SpeakOut, and now your code is no longer working (because it was written for Speakup). I am experiencing the same styling issues that we were experiencing prior to your fix.

I have been working closely with new plugin author 123host (I see he has poked his eye into this thread… :)))) and he has fixed the non breaking space issue that was copied over from Speakup.. which is AWESOME!!!

This issue might be better solved in the SpeakOut plugin but that really is up to Steve 123host to decide, but at this time, for expediting things I would like to attempt to modify the single cell shortcode tablepress extension.

When you did that modification, I assume you did it on my website only, and not a permanent change to your shortcode. Correct?

    Hi Tobias,

I found the text you inserted into your extension and modified it to SpeakOut.

It worked for the styling on one page, but only the first page. I now have 140 similar pages.

But it also did not fix a couple of other issues that I am having that are unique to the SpeakOut plugin.

Seeing that we now have an active author and support for SpeakOut, I think these issues are crossing over to the SpeakOut plugin and are not necessarily an issue with Tablepress.

I know where the code is now, and if necessary, I can pull it out of the extension or just modify it back to SpeakUp as in that form, it is controlling an non active plug in.

    Thanks for your excellent support.

    Hi,

awesome! It’s great to hear that Steve has stepped up and revived the plugin under a new name! ??

If you find that there are things uniquely related to/caused by TablePress, please let me know!

    Best wishes,

    Hi Tobias,

I am having problems with nesting and the new SpeakOut plugin.

It seems to be a similar issue to the one you fixed with the old speakup plug in where the formatting did not work without the code you wrote. Only this time, the formatting looks fine, but the Send button does not send.

To refresh your memory, you wrote some code for the old Speakup plugin, because Speakup was no longer supported by its author, and inserted it at the bottom of your Tablepress extension: single cell content shortcode.

The code is still there, but does not work on SpeakOut.

I edited your extra code by replacing the Speakup with Speakout and this did not work.

So I am back to almost the exact same place as I was 3 months ago.

Test page 01 contains the nested code [table-cell id=10 cell=Y132 /] and does not work

    https://www.madashellboycott.com/test-page-01/

I have discovered an interesting work around. If I put the code [emailpetition id=””] on the page it seems to load the proper stuff to run the nested code.

    See Test page 02

    Test page 02 contains [emailpetition id=””] [table-cell id=10 cell=Y132 /]

    https://www.madashellboycott.com/test-page-02/

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need access to my site, just let me know.

    Hi,

unfortunately, this doesn’t really ring a bell here.
Can you post the code that I added to the bottom of that Extension again?

    Hi Tobias,

Thanks for the quick response. Here is the code. Again written for Speakup, not speakout. And a simple word swap did not work. The problems with speakout is a little different. The send button does not work, BUT the formatting is fine.

    }

    if ( ! is_admin() ) {
    wp_enqueue_style( ‘dk_speakup_css’, plugins_url( ‘speakup-email-petitions/css/theme-basic.css’ ) );
    }

    Hi,

ok, if the styling is fine, but the button does not work, this is an issue of some JavaScript code not being loaded, instead of CSS as in the old version.
The fact that everything works when you add the empty [emailpetition id=""] Shortcode might confirm that, as this seems to be loading the (otherwise) missing JS as well.

Now, unfortunately, as I’m very busy at the moment (travelling and working abroad), I don’t really have time to take a direct look at this on your site again ??
Can you maybe try to find out if and how the emailpetition Shortcode loads JS code?

    Regards,
    Tobias
