We recently moved our WP network site from a testing server to it’s permanent home & now the Network level admin is broke. All sub site admins work fine. If I go into the wp-config and remove the www. from the front of our url, I can then access the network admin but it messes up all the permalinks so that all pages just redirect back to the home page. I’ve tried a hundred different things with the permalinks and the site urls in the database. The .htaccess file is correct. But nothing gets me both the network admin and the correct permalinks.

    Any ideas?

Generally sub-domains should not have “www” in its url. If your using a sub-domain to add a new site for a division it is best to give the new sub-domain site its own domain with domain mapping, or simply leave it as med.umkc.com. If I am mistaken and not understanding your problem, please let me know.

Well they’re treated like sub-folders. med.umkc.edu/surgery, /pathology, etc. If I lose the www in front of the url in the wp-config file, any page created by wordpress for the top level (only med.umkc.edu – no subfolders or subsite) redirects back to the main page. So med.umkc.edu/cal, which is not a sub-folder or a network site, only a page setup at the primary site, leads directly back to the main page.

I’ll setup a test install and run through some scenarios and see what’s going on. I’ll tag this for a Mod to look at and hopefully give you more information.

One thing I might say, that may be causing the problem is that if you change the urls with wp-config.php, you won’t be able to change them in Setting > General. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL refer to the second paragraph under Edit wp-config.php

Removed modlook tag. That is not what it is for. https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Reporting_Threads

I think it’s fixed. A combination of editing the wp-config file, pasting in those “Move your site” functions, changing the permalinks and probably most importantly, getting our IS guys to change the url so that it does NOT require the www. Which it never should have done in the first place.

    Thanks for the assist
