Network settings wont save

    Hi,

    I recently moved my (working) WordPress 3.1.3 installation to a new host (one.com). I have since then updated it to 3.1.4. The problem I’m having is that no settings in the network panel gets saved, even though WordPress tells me the settings are updated. When I change settings on an individual blog the setting is saved just fine. I activated debug mode and the only errors where some deprecated functions used in the theme.

    As a consequence my users can’t upload pictures (no media upload buttons can be selected to be shown), the max upload file size is 300 kB and, even though the site quota setting is 10 MB and deactivated, WordPress tells me I have 50 MB of space.

    I also can’t finish the update from 3.1.3 to 3.1.4, I’ve clicked the button to update all my network sites around ten times, each time it says it’s done but it just won’t take.

    Weirdly enough it worked for a short while (hours maybe) yesterday evening, after several hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting. Then it stopped working again, and the host’s support can’t do anything.

    Anyone have any idea what I can do for further troubleshooting or perhaps manually adjusting the settings in the database to get the blog working for my users? And where does the 50 MB quota come from?

  • Are they running any aching?
    Did you turn off ALL the plugins? AND switch to the default theme?

    If our global media upload setting is set to 10, and one site is at 50… go to the site settings and check if that one has been adjusted upward. Network Admin -> Sites-> Edit.

    They do have caching, and they are having problems with it at the moment, but since the settings for individual sites work without problems I’m doubtful that this is the source for this particular problem, I’m hoping it is though. Until they have it sorted, I’m happy for any other thoughts/troubleshooting ideas.

    Regarding the plugins/theme, no I haven’t switched them off. Would they really interfere like that? I get that switching everything back to the default state is preferable while troubleshooting, but how can a theme affect the network panel? No plugins are active for the whole network.

    Regarding the media upload quota, the setting is switched off in the network settings (and the text box next to it says 10 MB), but it’s still enforced on the sites, with the phantom 50 MB value. I just double checked, it’s blank in the sites’ settings so it should use the network setting.

    It’s working now. The problem was a bad database import, so wp_site and a few more tables were missing. WordPress said everything got saved alright even when it didn’t which threw me off, but an old backup did the trick.

    Yes, I’ve seen weirdly coded themes do interesting things where you’d think they would have no effect.

    Knowing you’d previously done a db import would’ve helped. ??
