  • Hi siebje, if you upload a new image you will notice a new checkbox available just above the upload drag-drop field. It uses a WordPress internal function but sadly it seems a bit unpredictable in that it sometimes just does not does anything. I have not found out why yet… Hence the TODO remark below that changelog entry ??

    Hi RavanH,

    Thanks for your answer!
If you find the time let me now when this is working, ofcourse if you don’t have the time I will also read the changelog :-).

    Kind regards,

    Willem

Hi Willem, I found out that the function to scale down images according to the max sizes set on Settings > Media has been completely removed from the latest version of WordPress. Adding such a function in Easy FancyBox is beyond the scope of the plugin. It’s heavy enough as it is… There is a fantastic plugin called Imsanity which I can highly recommend just made for that. ??

    Hi RavanH,

Was that the original idea of you to implement this ‘TODO’ in your own plugin? If yes, I think it’s a good decision not to do this ;-). It was for sure not my expetation, but I just didn’t know what you meant with ‘allow automatic resizing to large image size set on settings’ (I think I understand know you had the idea to implement this in your plugin???).

Thanks for your tip about Imsanity, I use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/resize-image-after-upload/.

I don’t know what benefit Imsanity has, if there is any (i’m not that technical) please feel free to tell me.

For sure I can say that Resize Image after Upload works perfectly.

    Kind regards,

    Willem

Hi Willem, no it was never my intention to add this sort of functionality. The re-size function had in fact already been implemented, hidden/dormant (or at least not used) inside WordPress. I don’t know since when it has been there, I just stumbled upon it at some point and devised a way to ‘wake it up’ and offer the re-sizing as an option in the WordPress upload dialog, adding the option through a simple hook.

I’m pretty sure the WordPress function had originally been created for this kind of use and I still think it has purpose (many websites use far too big images since many people do not bother sizing camera images down before uploading them)… but apparently the WordPress core team thinks otherwise because in the most recent versions of WordPress, the function has been removed. Again, I was not aware of it as it has been silently removed) so I had to ‘unhook’ the option again.

Anyway, the choice to leave such matters up to plugins has merits too. Maybe I’ll do a simple plugin one day that reinstates the old function and offering it as option during upload, without it being as ‘complicated’ as Imsanity. ??

    Hi Ravan,

[ Moderator note: HTML removed, <ul> without <li> breaks the formatting of the post. ]

Thanks for your explenation again! Now I (finally) fully understand what you mean.

    Kind regards,

    Willem
