• Hola, everyone.

Texpundit.com is a site I originally had up to do a podcast (running Loudblog) which went south real quick.

After sitting a while, I decided to go ahead and bring it back as a “local observation” blog running WordPress. The theme is 100% custom and the site uses the following plugins:

    Bad Behavior – 2.0.1
    Customizable Post Listings – 1.1
    CG-Redirect – 0.7
    CG-FlashyTitles – 1.4.1
    IImage Browser – 1.5
    Lightbox Plugin – 0.5 PLUS!
    Feedburner Feed Replacement – 2.02
    runPHP – 2.1b
    Spam Karma 2 – 2.2 r3
Admin Drop Down Menu – 1.3
    WordPress Heat Map – 1.1
    WP-ContactForm – 1.4.3

There’s an odd bug with CG-Redirect that David’s working on, so the “Home” link doesn’t work at the moment. Also, I may end up adding one of the social networking bookmark plugins (Sociable, BlogBling, etc.) in the near future, once I have a little more content.

Feel free to post any comments/criticisms. Also, feel free to comment on the blog itself. ??

    Thanks in advance,
    MJ

  • too dark for my tastes; there are text bits in the header graphic, for instance, that are nearly unreadabe for me.

I also prefer it when links show some indication of having been clicked (yours dont).

Man, CG-FlashyTitles works in really well with the color-scheme. Simple, yet effective and visually striking. With FT v3, there’s some new ‘default fonts’ you may want to play with eventually. ??

I agree with whooami when it comes to the header graphic text. But, as for the link color changing, nah — I do the same on my own site designs, usually having the link and visited colors the same.

Okay, I’m feeling really stupid. I’m not seeing anything “dark”. I’m seeing a version of equix, light colors, “Vinit/Rinku’s Family blog” which redirects to https://www.oswal.info/ – no flashy titles, no same color link/visited….

    ?

@vkaryl: here?!? https://texpundit.com/ Hmm, not what I’m seeing.

As for the blog, I don’t normally like light on dark, but I think this one’s really quite sharp. Looks nice.

    AHHHHHH!!!! I’m really a space cadet…. I was entering “textpundit.com”…. heh. Ooops.

Well, gee-haw…. now that I managed thanks to Handy to get to the right site…..

Keep in mind that I normally don’t care for “dark”. However, the ONLY thing I’m not thrilled about with this one is the way the description text disappears into the header. Punch it up in yellow….

And hey – there’s a place at the Roslyn station that has the BEST croissants this side of Paris…. eat a couple for me…. I never could get them to ship to me out here, no matter how much I was willing to pay….

Oh, and one of the best not-deep-South barbeque places is right around the corner from the Silver Springs station.

[Wouldn’t be a surprise if neither place was there now – been a while….]

    @davidchait, HandySolo & whooami

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll go in a few minutes and brighten up the tagline text in a few. That should help. ?? I was unsure about going with the light on dark color scheme, but the more I messed with it, the more I liked it…especially with the preponderance of super bright/pastel “Web 2.0” color schemes out there.

    @vkaryl

What’re names of the places? I’d like to go check them out. I don’t normally go through Rosslyn, but I’ll visit there for a good croissant. ?? Doubt I’ll ever go as far as Silver Spring, though. (I live in Crystal City and work at Dupont Circle, so that tells you my daily route. *L*)

There’s actually a “texas barbecue” place open now in Chinatown that I’m going to try out next Friday. I’ll let you know how it is. ??

    Any other comments/criticisms?

No clue on names…. the croissant place was in the little shop area on the street side of the Roslyn station, nice little bakery; sort of an “aside”/adjunct to the full-service drugstore.

Well, jeez – it’s really easy to get off your “beaten path” on the tube, man…. if your sigother is into fabric, quilts, and clothes, there’s a great Hancock mega-outlet in Silver Spring too…. of course, it could be gone by now, admittedly!

HA! You’re assuming I have a sigother. *falls over laughing* Read my lastest entry. ??

Ah…. sorry!? Well, I know someone who’d like you (and you’d like her) but she’s only a few years younger than I am, and my daughter is probably about 10 years older than you are, so unless you’re looking for mom…. which I doubt….

Anyway, I love the DC area for a lot of reasons, but I do see that it might not be your perfect place to live forever etc. Then again, I love South Texas (east or west!) too (ever been to Kemah? Yeah yeah, I know, there’s really nothing there but the swamps and a roadhouse – assuming IT is still there….) – and at least you have the sunset on your blog to make you feel at home.

    I really like it

I don’t mind the dark but the subtitle in your header is too dark for me to read.

having not read previous posts, excuse me if i repeat. i think its very dark, but in a really cool way. i also think the organization is excellent! great work ??

You might want to change the font for the tagline so it is more striking. Or convert it to the font that you are using for the blog itself, so that it goes with the theme better.

Thanks for taking a look, everyone.

@drmike – I bumped up the brightness on the tagline so that it’s more readable now. Thanks for the heads up. My monitors are pretty bright, so I didn’t realize it was *that* dark.

@snipeseye – Yeah. I struggled with that and just decided to go with Arial, like the text on the site. I’ll probably change it to something else when I decide to really update the theme.

    Again, thanks everyone!

    MJ

Just want ya ta know, you’re bookmarked…. I’m finding your slants EXTREMELY refreshing!
