• Hola! This is MJ/SavoryMedia (formerly The Armageddon Project/Armageddon Design) and I’ve finally got a new site I want to show off.

A friend of a friend was sick and tired of Blogger going bottoms-up on a regular basis and contacted me through the friend about building them a whole new blog site using WordPress.

    Enter: Let Freedom Ring.
(Yes, I know it’s a conservative political blog. Get over it. I’m showing off the design, not the content the client chooses to put in it. Sheesh.)

I wanted to do a theme that wasn’t your crappy ol’ 2 or 3 column blog design you see on most political blogs, so I decided to take some “Web 2.0”-ish (yeah, I hate that phrase, too) elements and a lot of ideas from design blogs and mash it all together with a little bit of my own humor thrown in (check the badge).

The site is using WP 2.0.2 with the following plugins:

    Spam Karma 2
    runPHP
    WP-ContactForm
    IImage Browser
    Admin Drop Down Menu
    Tiger Admin

The only thing that bugs me is the host’s current inability to allow clean URLs. (And the client won’t change hosts.)

Anyway, what do you think of the design/layout? (Make sure to check the search, single and archive pages.)

    Thanks in advance,
    M.DJ – SavoryMedia

  • It seems very odd to have the navigation at the foot of a very long page.

I agree with haecceity – maybe limit the number of posts showing on the front page to no more than 1 or 2 – it’ll shorten the page tremendously… another thing you should try to do is make the header navigation larger somewhat – so that it stands out, in the event that someone’s not interested in that particular post on the front… they can more easily navigate to categories or pages and whatnot…

I like the idea of being “different” – kudos to you on that, however the words that strike me as most important are “functional” and “easily navigated”… JMHO

I had it originally set at one post and the client requested five posts. Considering I got paid pretty decently for the job, what the client wants, he gets.

That’s understandable – I’m just offering opinion, since that’s what you asked for. From one designer to another – and in terms of SEO and optimizing the site for visitors – since that’s what I get paid so well for… ??
