• (Over at WordPress.com they say that this question belongs here.)

WP 3 has a new way of getting the api key (if you don’t already have one, and I wonder if it causes this situation:

I just started a new test blog today with WP 3. I put in the api key from my wordpress.com blog. My other blogs are listed in the Global Dashboard “My Blogs” area, but not the new one. Previously, the blogs showed up when I put in the key.

How do I get my new WP 3 test blog to show in the WordPress.com Global Dashboard?

(For what it’s worth, I needed a test blog to figure out how to make a child theme so I can upgrade the themes for my other blogs to use WP 3 without losing my customization…..)

  • It’s all about the stats.

Your .org websites MUST have a WP Stats plugin, with your .com API key entered. This links it to your .com account, enabling you to see the stats in one place, and links the blogs together.

I had one .org website that showed up in my .com dashboard, and one that did not. After comparing everything, I realized two important things:

1-Even though my username, login, and personal info was identical, the accounts on the .org sites were independent accounts from my wordpress.com accounts, and from each other.
2-The only reason the global dashboard links the .org blogs is to combine all the stats together.

Your API key must be entered in your WP Stats plugin for this integration to happen.

If you are logged into all accounts and your keychain saves the passwords, the ‘My Blogs’ link will take you to the dashboard of your .org blogs as well as your .com blogs.
