    Hi guys,

I searched documentation and forum with no avail.

I am about to install a new blog for a new site and I wonder if there is any way to reproduce/duplicate the same set up with the same plugins as my last WP installation (?).

Basically I would save me a ton of time. I am using 20 or more plugins many with custom settings and if there was a way to kind of duplicate the WP set up it would easily save me a day of work (yeah, I know, what can I do… I am a lazy web bum).

    Appreciate
    Marco

Unfortunately, there’s no way to duplicate the settings. The closest thing you could do is upload all of the same files from the previous blog and import an SQL dump from the previous blog. This will give you an exact copy and you can work backwards by removing posts, comments, etc, but that can be quite time-consuming too.

In your case, I’d recommend just taking screenshots of the settings from the previous blog and starting the new blog from scratch.

    marcova,
Having done this very thing many times, I find that a new install is always a good start. I usually run through my existing WP install I want to mirror and take a few notes on certain code changes to plugins and things that can’t be done from the plugin settings pages themselves. Then I will just put both blogs side by side and go through each and every settings page and plugin customization one by one to make sure I get it all.

On a side note, I have found that keeping a running list of custom changes to all sites I administer is a good pro-active practice as well. I use a simple application found here: https://www.php-csl.com/ Once you get it going, make a few minor changes, it works quite well for documenting and tracking syntax changes made to plugins, core files etc.

    Good Luck

    Thank you fou your reply.
I did think about copy/moving the existing blog to the new domain and then delete all the content… not having much experience working with databases i would have to do that from admin and at that point I am not sure if it would actually save me time.

Screenshots are definitely going to help.

Yes, installing the new one while looking at the other one is a good idea too, possibly more practical than screenshots. This is only my forth WP but I already see the need to systemize the process.

But thank you a bunch for the tip about https://www.php-csl.com/. Being able to keep track of the various settings, tweeks and code changes is definitely the beginning of a ‘system’.

    Thank you guys, appreciate.
