Someone told me she tried to subscribe to my blog and got an email saying she needs to sign up for a WordPress account. This seems to be new. Can I disable this? I want subscribers to be able to sign up for the blog without needing to have a WordPress account, as before. Thank you.

  • WordPress doesn’t have any “subscribe to blog” feature (except for RSS, which is not what you’re talking about here).

What plugin are you using for this? If you’re not sure, can you provide your site address so I can take a look?

Thanks very much for replying. That’s odd! I was surprised when she said that, but she showed me the email she had receive which had asked her to sign up to WordPress.

I use Jetpack (is there an alternative?)

My site is. The sign up is under the ‘small delights blog’ tab if you want to test it. Thanks!

Jetpack does offer an email subscription feature.

I believe the emails offer signing up for a WordPress.com account, so that they can follow you in the WordPress.com Reader, but they make it clear that’s not a requirement.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are two different entities: https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/difference-between-wordpress-org-and-wordpress-com/

Specifically, Jetpack brings already built-in WordPress.com features (like the subscription emails and WordPress.com Reader) to www.ads-software.com blogs like yours.

I recommend getting in touch with Jetpack’s support about this via https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support if you have any of their paid Jetpack plans or https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/jetpack/ if you do not.
