I had WP installed at the root of my site and upgraded to 3.0 and followed instructions to create multisite network. I also have a sub folder with WPMU installed.
    My permalinks work.
I updated wp-config and htaccess with the code generated from the network install.
My WPMU install creates the folders with no problem and I am using the same user/rights in the database.
The original install created a sub-domain setup and I changed it to sub-directory according to a post I found in the forum.
Do you think the problem with the blogs not being created has something to do with having a WPMU install on the same server, even though it is in a subdirectory. I know when I installed WPMU I had to comment out some lines in wp-config in the root folder to complete the installation?

    Thanks in advance.

It could be. subfolder and subdirectories are the *same thing*.

    Where’s your site?

    https://www.parklandsd.org – upgraded to 3.0 multisite from wp 2.92
    https://www.parklandsd.org/web – WPMU site

    subdirectory for multisite: https://www.parklandsd.org/carts

I checked the database and all the tables are there.

    Thankyou ??

The second site is a completely blank screen. this is always a php error of some sort.

Like, just for example, if you deleted the default theme, creating a new blog that looks for that theme will give you this error. ??

Can you login to the backend of the /carts/ blog?

    Hi Andrea,
I uploaded the files for WP 3.0 again in case something was causing a php error.
Thanks for the advice to look at the themes. I did a manual install and did not upload the wp-content folder as I didn’t want to over write my current files. I added the twenty ten theme and now the blog works.
Thank you for your quick and helpful response ??

That’d do it. ?? New blogs are set to use the new default theme (TwentyTen) by default. No theme, white screen. ??
