• Hello! How’s it going?

    A couple weeks ago, I changed my favicon using WordPress cpanel (there’s an option to change logo and site icon, the latter of which becomes the favicon).

    That worked to update the favicon in my browser; however, the old “lion” favicon is still showing in Google search results (instead of the new “helmet”). The current icon in the WordPress cpanel is the helmet in PNG format.

    Since that didn’t work, I also uploaded a favicon.ico to my root. After a few days I changed the URL since others said they had success with getting the Google cache to refresh. Here is my current code in header with the link to the helmet favicon (48 x 48).

    <link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”/favicon.ico?v=4f32ecc8f43d”>

    As you can see in screenshot, old lion still showing: https://ibb.co/cJf21HY

    This is the new favicon: https://ibb.co/N7ZcmdF

    I requested new index of homepage with each change and waited a few days..

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • Google doesn’t work in real-time. When you make changes on your site, it takes time (days, weeks or even months, in some cases) for the change to reflect on Google.

    Unfortunately, we don’t have direct control over this.
