    Good afternoon,

I’ve recently been using your excellent plugin, but have found that one feature would really help a client of mine.

In addition to time logged in for each user it would be useful to have a feature documenting the amount of time that the user spent logged in. This would help to understand further how users are interacting with different areas of the site.

    Thanks,

    Chris.

  • Hi Chris! Thanks so much for the suggestion and positive feedback!

You will be happy to know that there is an extension for Stream called Reports which I think does achieve part of what you’re looking for. It allows you to visualize team contributions and see what areas of the site are being changed over a specific time span.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was going to look into the Reports extension to add the graphical reporting features, I just wanted to check if there were any plans to add any extra analytics to the Stream plugin.

It’s not a deal breaker, but it would be a great addition to know the duration of time that a user has spent once logged in.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Yes, that is certainly a great idea. I could see that data being valuable.

It might be difficult to know when exactly a user has logged out, however, since your session cookie can technically remain as “logged in” even though you’ve closed all browser windows. So achieving something like this in an accurate way might involve Stream leveraging the Heartbeat API to ping the user’s position within the WP Admin and check to see if they are still active. We’d just have to be careful about performance concerns for large sites if there are say 500 people logged in simultaneously.

In any case, this is something we will put on our future wish list for sure! If you have any more ideas please feel free to share them here again any time! /five
