I did two things yesterday. I updated my WP to 3.4.2. I then tried to upload one of my images as a header to replace another one of my own images that has been a header for about 12 months. It keeps giving me an error message. I do not know whether the update and the error message are connected.
The theme I use is Twenty Ten. The size of the new image that I am trying to upload is 33.3KB.
This same error message comes up when I try to use both the browser uploader and the multi-file uploader.
“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 14592 bytes) in/home/[a site name]/public_html/wp-includes/media.php on line 258”
I did a forum search for the problem being raised previously. There was only one where several people mentioned a feature image upload giving this message. But there did not seem to be any advice given before it was closed.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or how to reduce the amount in the memory or something else? Thanks.

    Hi esmi,

Thanks for that swift suggestion. I am wary about modifying “back-office” files but your link seems to give good information. So I will try tonight. I promise to post to say how I get on or any further queries. Thanks again for the moment.

My hosting outfit said I could not access my php.ini but they did it for me and uplifted 32M to 64M. I can now upload the image that I could not before. So it seems a success. Thanks esmi for your advice.
