Copied complete website from test environment to new WP install on new host server. Completed using wpvivid-backup then restore….All worked successfully. New website live and looked complete.

Further examination showed some loss of images. I tried to upload new images via either drag/drop or file upload to Media Library, resulted in Error: “Unable to create directory uploads/2020/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

I checked Folder, it has permission 755. This I understand is correct.
I rest permalinks yet cannot now load any new images……..so Update is useless.

Any thoughts on how to possibly correct?

FIXED. – YOU HAVE A BUG IN YOUR PROGRAM.

Restore to a brand new URL from the backup file, failed to set the Media/Uploads location.
It left the location that was in the backup, thus pointing out to my test file when it should have changed to the new url.

Other than this hiccup which I have spent a few hours trying to find….your program worked excellently!!!

    Hey @appleisle

I apologize for the inconvenience, but we failed to reproduce the issue on our test sites even after many tries.

Could you please provide us more info regarding “it failed to set the Media/Uploads location.”?

What was the Media/Uploads location in the backup and how did you set it on the source site(did you use any plugins to do that)?

Also, what was the Media/Uploads location on the target site after the migration? How did you correct it to the right one?

    Thanks,

    All the best,

Hi Tony, best I can do is state the Upload processes I did. NB I did it twice with same results.

    1. I have a test website https://www.djg4friends.com/tets10.
The media location is settings: /home/djg4frie/public_html/test10/wp-content/uploads
    2. I found your backup/Restore very easy to use. I created B/up and download to Google Drive from test website. No issues.
    3. Went to new client URL https://www.lmk917.com – to which I had, via Cpanel loaded a native install of WordPress.
    4. In lmk917.com I loaded your plugin and ran Restore from backup. All appeared to work fine.
    5. I went to add a new image and as per my first post it failed.
    6. I searched for the issue and that’s when I found in WP/Settings/Media the reference was:/home/djg4frie/public_html/test10/wp-content/uploads
    7. Once I fixed this to point to correct lmk917 location….All perfect:)

PS: I will be out of action for 2 wks, so may not reply further. Dennis

    Thank you very much @appleisle

    That helps.

    All the best,

    Hi there,

I am basically very excited about the plugin.

But unfortunately I have exactly the same mistake. After successfully transferring an installation to a new domain, I cannot upload any images (media files).

Do you have a tip where I can look for the error?

    thanks

    Hi Jonas, I’d recommend checking:

Dashboard / Settings / Media – look at what folder the media files are uploading into.

    Hope that helps, cheers Dennis

Hi Dennis, Sometimes it’s easy. Thank you very much. Greeting. Jonas
