New Install or Upgrade? That is the Question ..

  • Using a pretty outdated version of Mu and want to update the most recent install. Multisite functionality is no longer needed. Am I better off doing a new install of the latest version and migrating my files over? Or is upgrading pretty straightforward?

    I’m getting that my task is made a bit more complex by the fact my move is from the prehistoric mu (given that our original install was in 2009) to the newer version of wordpress which integrates this.

    I’ve read the documentation extensively and read a lot of comment threads and think I have the steps down. Any advice?

    Multisite functionality is no longer needed.

    Install a fresh copy of WP. Export content from the old one, import to the new one.

    In your case, DO NOT upgrade ?? it’ll be easier to debug problems later.
