New Installation – login page, admin, text editor and other things not right

  • I installed a new WP blog at https://info.nextlevelblogger.com/. Check it out…there are some issues:

    1. the login page is missing the wordpress logo.
    2. the left hand navigation bar in admin section is missing features (the nifty pull down menus are gone for example).
    3. the wysiwyg editor is missing graphics that ought to be there.
    4. the default theme looks different, like the css is customized. you will see this by visiting the blog. This is NOT how the default theme looks.

    Here’s the thing, I installed with simplescripts. That’s when I saw the problems. I uninstalled, deleted all remaining files and reinstalled all over again. Same problems. I did it again. Same problems. Then I downloaded a fresh copy of WP off www.ads-software.com and deleted all the files of the installation and replaced them with files from the www.ads-software.com download. Same problems.

    So, I’m getting a messed up installation no matter where I download from. What the heck? I have a 2.7.1 installation from just a few days ago. I downloaded from the same place, and the blog is hosted on the same server, and everything is fine.

    Is it a problem with mysql somehow? I’m completely out of ideas ??

    Seriously, has WP changed all this stuff in the past couple days? Everything seems to *work* just fine…no issues there at all. but the WYSIWYG editor is definitely not right, and I just think it’s odd that all these things look different. I’m reluctant to continue to build on this installation without knowing it’s not corrupt.

    Did you check your php version? Though wordpress works fine on 4 and 5 both. Which is your hosting company? Did you try contacting your hosting support?

    running 5.2.9. My host is not able to help. Bluehost. Also, I have another WP blog on the same server that is just fine.

    Might be something in your .htaccess. Try renaming the .htaccess in your public_html directory as well as the one in your info directory and refresh the site. See if that fixes anything. If it does, you can look through the code in each .htaccess and see if you can find which lines are causing it. If it doesn’t… I could take a look at it for you and see if I can locate the problem.

    couldn’t i just delete htaccess and wp will regenerate? am I wrong about that? Thanks. I will try it. I have a WP blog on the same server that’s just fine. It’s brand new also and not developed. I could maybe duplicate the htaccess from that blog. Does that make sense? Thanks a lot. I’ll try anything. I’ve used WP for quite some time now and can typically fix most anything…this is a first for me!

    I installed on the main domain, and everything works fine. This is really interesting to me. I have a deadline, so I’m just going to build it on the top level domain instead of on the “info” subdomain as originally planned.

    For some reason, when I install WP on this subdomain these problems come up, but when I install on the main domain there are no issues. I’m honestly at a loss. Anyway, for me personally I would still love to know what causes this. It would be nice to be able to build on a subdomain in the future!

    Replacing the htaccess seems to do nothing to remedy. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks again!

    In case you didn’t get this resolved yet, I had this problem, too and resolved it in different ways on different sites. One was a .htaccess problem. The other was that I had pasted into a post and it added extra html to it that broke things. If you get a post with too wide of an image setting, or other garbage code that will happen. Especially if you paste from an html email or from Microsoft Word, etc.
