New lines in product descriptions break CSV

  • Hi, I created a CSV feed that contains (among other data) the product descriptions but when I try to import the CSV in Excel/Calc then the columns are all messed up. It looks like all new lines in product descriptions break the CSV.

    I tried to get double quotes as string separator by setting them as pre- and postfix but these get stripped after saving the feed options.

    Is there any way to solve this problem? Thanks ??

    Another, related issue: when the CSV is set to use the pipe sign as delimiter, then pipe signs in titles or descriptions will mess up the CSV as well. Does the plugin not replace pipe signs inside text fields with
    | in such a case?

    Hi @ravanh ,

    In most cases if it looks broken then your CSV viewer isn’t separating the fields correctly. You can try opening the file with Google sheets and see if that works.

    Hi, first I thought pipe signs in text fields were not escaped but it appears that all commas in fiels are actually replaced by pipe signs. For example, a price of € 17,50 will look like 17|50 in the csv., which will then be interpreted as two fields when importing.

    If you take the feed https://carafons.fr/wp-content/uploads/woo-product-feed-pro/csv/rmBKdyVZpLGFr2A5Gzhu8SI2HRj3WlRf.csv and import that in a Google Sheets (set the separator to Custom: |) , then the result is a big mess. Each row should start with the product ID but that already is not the case anymore from row 3 and onward…

    There appear to be two causes:

    1. Line breaks in product descriptions are not removed
    2. All commas in any field (prices, descriptions etc.) are replaced by pipes

    We had no issues until the latest update.

    Does the Wetransfer version address these issues? Please let me know and I’ll gladly test it ??

    Hi @ravanh ,

    Yes, we’ve introduced a couple bug fixes in the hotfix but a safer option would be to downgrade and wait for the official release.
