    Hi there,

Could you please confirm that there are still more GDPR related updates to come for this plugin? And if so when we can expect them to be released please?

This has been mentioned / discussed in a previous post (below) but no real information since and with several sites to update and clients wanting to know when their sites will be compliant it would be really good to get confirmation that further updates are coming and when.

Appreciate that the new GDPR fields on MailChimp were only added fairly recently.

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

The plugin already has everything you would need to be GDPR compliant, we will add some features to make it easier for you in the next update, like warnings with certain settings and an easier way to include a required checkbox to confirm data is saved at Mailchimp. Keep an eye on this article for more information: https://kb.mc4wp.com/gdpr-compliance/

For now, if you like to add that checkbox you can use this code in the form builder: https://gist.github.com/dannyvankooten/c6ac57e734348fdf7ce1b3b65e4ecdd7

Mailchimp does not let us set those GDPR fields via the API, but instead advised us and our users to use normal interest groups instead. You can include those in the form as checkboxes and it will be saved in Mailchimp and let you create segments based on what boxes someone checked.
If you add new interest groups it can take awhile before the button to insert them into the forms show in our plugin, to speed that up go to Mailchimp for WP > Mailchimp after creating the interest groups and click the Renew Mailchimp Lists to directly pull in the latest fields and lists.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let us know!

Many thanks for the extra information – much appreciated. Will the features you mentioned at the start of your reply be available soon? Before 25th May?

    Many thanks.

I’ve figured out how to add the tickbox, text and links to mailchimp terms/ privacy policy just fine….but there is no way to save a record of what the subscriber agreed to within my mailchimp account or anywhere else, so I’m not sure this is sufficient. The only way I can see to do this is the mailchimp GDPR Forms solutions won’t work with enbedded or plugin forms. stuck!

What data do you want to save in Mailchimp exactly? For opt-in to specific types of emails you can use interest groups. For the standard checkbox, since you can’t submit the form without checking it I think this should be enough, together with the subscription date that mailchimp will already save, especially if you also got double opt-in turned on.

Of course i’m not a lawyer so don’t take this as legal advice.

I expect the update to be rolled out before 25th of May.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let us know!

MailChimp is telling you to segment your list for your different types of contact methods, such as email, direct mail etc. But these segments don’t seem to show up for selection on your forms so are you saying we have to ignore what they have said and set up different interest groups (not segments) for these different contact method permissions?

It seems as though to still use your plugin we have to not also use their signup forms at all otherwise there will be an issue with different people giving permissions in different ways? If I’m understanding correctly that is?

Some of my clients will have already followed MailChimps advice and set up things as they recommend / suggest I think. The easiest thing in some cases might be to be link straight to the MailChimp signup form.

    Thank you in advance!

@misstt – so would that mean simply setting up your Mailchimp GDPR Forms (hosted ones) and then putting some kind of text/image (“sign up for our newsletter!”) on my website, with an embedded link directly to the form URL that Mailchimp provides?

That would work fine for my homepage and account pages…but not so great for the Checkout

@matttechmodular some of my sites had a button opening up a pop-up (part of the theme itself) it isn’t looking like the theme popup will be updated in time so I have changed the button to just link directly to the MailChimp signup form itself which has all the GDPR fields on it. These sites were not using this plugin at all and at the time of writing the post I thought it might be an option to consider also for sites using this plugin.

It’s not exactly been clear what was needed and it’s all a bit lastminute.com so it could be an option for some websites to save a bit of hassle / quickly comply.

@misstt – brilliant, thanks for that. This is kind of where I’m at, after spending many hours researching options. I may just add the tickbox (consent to mailchimp data etc..) to my “sign up to newsletter” boxes for now, as I’ve figured that out…and then see if Mailchimp or this plugin manage to come up with a more integrated solution over the next month or two. If not, I’ll switch to a linked, hosted form

….just annoying that you’d lose the integration with the checkout page
