I followed tutorials and set up multisite just fine on MediaTemple server. I’ve installed
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

And I’ve followed the configuration in
    https://ottopress.com/2010/wordpress-3-0-multisite-domain-mapping-tutorial/

I’m running the latest versions of everything.

Multisite is set for subdomains, not subdirectories.

I created the first subdomain site in the network, mapped the domain and all was well. MediaTemple required that I create a symlink in order for the domain name to work, but that was easy.

Then I installed bulletproof security plugin (which says it’s compatible with multisite). It suggested I change a few file permissions for security purposes. I don’t know if this will end up being relevant, but I don’t recall the exact changes I made. In any case, I made those file permission changes. Then I went to migrate the next site into the network.

I have everything uploaded, and it works just fine as a subdomain. But when I map the domain for this site, all that shows up is a blank page. No error message.

If I remove the delete the mapped domain and just use the subdomain, it goes back to working fine. I’m at a loss. The first site migrated in just fine. Now it appears I cannot get anything else to show up. Any insight is much appreciated!

I’ve since deleted Bulletproof security plugin btw. I’m trying to find default file and folder permissions for WordPress and can’t seem to find that info anywhere. I feel like I’ve just hit an impasse and am considering just deleting the whole damn site and rebuilding it.

If anyone can provide an assist on this, it will be much appreciated. Thank you!

OK I’ve changed all folder permissions to 755 and php doc permissions to 644. Still nothing.

I’ve spent so many hours trying to figure this out. Spoken at length with both MediaTemple and my domain registrar. No one has any idea.

Finally went in, tweaked dns and got it to work. Holy crap. I’ve literally been stabbing in the dark for over 10 hours trying to get this to work.

I’ve not come across any of this in documentation anywhere. All that’s said anywhere I can find is that you need to create an A record or CNAME to direct your domain to the network. In my case, I had to change nameservers over entirely, wiping out all DNS. I had to rebuild all DNS entries on MediaTemple, assign the domain name to MediaTemple dashboard, create a symlink and THEN map the domain within multisite.

It works now. I’m gonna go pass out. Hope this helps someone ??

Well… Yeah. You have to use the nameservers of where your domain is hosted. That’s a standard Website Rule ?? Your domains have to be told where they’re gonna live ??
