New Multisite Users Sent Password AND Set Password Link

    I’ve noticed that when creating a new site in multisite, new users are sent an email with their password / login per the template at Network Settings > “Welcome User Email” AND they sent a second email with “To set your password, visit the following address: ……. “.

    Why is the second email being sent with the option to choose a password when the user has already been given a password in the other email?

    Not much of an explanation, but it is what’s happening: This happens when a new site is added without an existing user’s email as site administrator. This triggers the normal new user routine that provides a password reset link. Additionally, the new site routine sends the user and password as a separate, unrelated process. The two are obviously not coordinated at all, but probably should be. IMO, no password should ever be sent by email.

    I suggest you submit a Trac ticket regarding this so the WP development community can discuss the best solution and implement it.
