A little over a month ago my site stopped sending the confirmation of a new order. It is not sent to the customer nor to the admin. I have researched this and found it is not being sent, it is not that it is sent and blocked by the email system. The site was out of date so I did a complete update of everything, wordpress, Woocommerce and all plugins. The site seems to be working correctly except for this problem. Any idea of what could be causing this. Is there a setting I am missing? I do have the emails set up in the settings with the correct recipients. I am totally baffled by this – I really thought the update of the programming would shake this loose but it did not. It is causing all kinds of problems with the admin not knowing there is a new order and the customer does not get the confirmation that the order has been placed. (so actually it seems to be 2 emails not being triggered on a new order)

Any assistance on this will be greatly appreciated!

  • Sue,

We have this handy document here that covers how to troubleshoot email issues:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/email-faq/

I’d be particularly interested to here what this section turns up for you:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/email-faq/#section-4

That is, are emails logged OK in an email logging plugin, but not actually sent? If so, that indicates that WordPress is trying to send emails correctly, but your server itself is somehow failing to send them. That’d be something to contact your host about.

Also, are other emails from the site sending OK, e.g. password reset emails? If *everything* is not sending, that’s a good indicator that the issue is something bigger than WooCommerce, like a server problem.

    Let us know! ??

    This is actually getting worse!

I have checked the mail log and the processed order to customer and the new order to the admins are not being logged so they are not being created.

I have set up an SMTP email through my server (which works perfectly) but these emails never reach the server because they are not being generated.

AND now I see [email protected] as an email address in the mail log since I upgraded everything and I can’t find where that email address is programmed into wordperss/woocommerce. I have a screenshot of the message that I generated through the mail log but do not know how to upload it.

Please please help …. This is causing all kinds of problems.

    Thanks

I found the [email protected] problem and have solved that – it was the Contact From Widget that a previous designer had not completed correctly and it still had the space holder address in it.

But I still can’t fix the major problem I first asked about.

    Thanks
    Sue

    Hi Sue,

Can you install the WP Mail Logging plugin and test by placing an order to see if there’s any email log?

Please send us a screenshot of the log, I recommend https://snipboard.io/ for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL in this chat. It works with Chrome, Firefox and Edge..

Thank you for your reply – I finally found what the problem was and it had to do with the connection with PayPal. Should others have this problem check your email info in the PayPal section of your woo commerce settings to be sure the email addresses are correctly set up – they need to match the PayPal account settings. (be sure the email address for the admin of the site is, if not the primary email address with PayPal is at least one of the emails associated with your PayPal account) Google the correct settings for this and I am sure you will find further info – I can’t find the link at this moment).

I apologize, I forgot that I had this post still open.
