New order notification emails not being received by admin

For the past 4-6 weeks email notifications for new orders have suddenly stopped and we have no idea when an order has been received, except when the customer pays via PAyPal and we get the PayPal notification.
This is a HUGE problem for us. Especially at this time of year, so urgent help would be most appreciated.
