New Plugin format is rubbish

  • ~Seriously Guys, after many years and complaints about how the plugin pages are usless as you have no way to sort them, your NEW format is worse.
    I do wonder why you can not give it filtering and sorting facilities.

    Example, search for File (I am looking for a file manager and I have 1590 pages each comprising 14 plugins and they are returned in no order what so every.

    I wouldn’t blame the directory for that, honestly.

    In a directory of currently 48,604 plugins, you absolutely have to use more refined search terms than just the word file or else you definitely will be paging through 1,590 pages.

    If you search instead for file manager you’re down to 110 pages, and the first 2 results are specifically just file managers with the following results having sort sort of file managing component.

    It’s a huge index, and unless you want to experience that huge index in its entirety, you absolutely have to use more specific searches.

    Still, additional filtering would be nice, such as Last Updated Within X Weeks, Star Rating, Compatibility. These should be easy to implement, since that meta data already exists.

    What would be useful to filter by? Ratings and last-updated dates don’t hold useful information.

    Last Updated DOES hold useful info..who wants to use a plugin when the last time it was updated was 3 years ago? If it doesn’t “hold useful info” then why show us the “Last Updated” date in the first place? Going by your post, the date of the plugin doesn’t matter. Maybe it doesn’t matter to you, but to the rest of us? It matters big time. “Compatible with your version of WordPress” and the Last Updated date work together.

    If anything, we should AT LEAST be able to bring the “Compatible with your version of WordPress” right to the top. I prefer to see ONLY the plugins I can actually use and I prefer to use plugins that are compatible with my version of WordPress…at least that way I know it’s at the very least updated to run with my current version of WordPress.

    I’m sick of searching for a plugin and seeing “Untested with your version of WordPress” all over the page, then find ONE plugin that is actually compatible with my version half-way down the page surrounded by more outdated and untested versions.

    tl;dr
    At least let us filter by Compatibility. This would at least bring the most current versions to the top.
