• Hiya,

Just letting everybody know that I launched my official portfolio website, and it’s WP-powered. Check ‘er out!

    Big Sweater Design (dot) com

Plugins: Akismet (of course), Improved Include Page, Run for Cover, ST Visualize Advanced Features, Automattic Stats and ZenPress.

I’m still tweaking it and changing things here and there, as well as adding content, so I’m open to suggestions. Chances are I’ll wanna redesign it anyway in a year or so, but for now I’m fairly happy with it.

    Hope you all like it!

  • Hey, that’s neat how it looks like a big tag on a sweater, and the Header and Footer areas are divided up into functional areas / columns / nav, in the contemporary way. I like it. Photoshoppily, the wrinkled edges of the tag (bottom corners) look especially cool.

However that orange header font, I’m not so sure. Is it supposed to look kind of, stictched? Also similar font in footer & “links”. In a way it goes with your theme but in a way it just looks computery. The other 2-3 fonts (body and nav/logos) are good.

great work tho. What does ‘zenpress’ do?

Yeah, I’m currently using Courier as the header text, and it doesn’t render so well on everybody’s computers. It’s meant to resemble the font in the nav and header images, but I think I’m just going to change it to match the rest of the body text.

All the graphics were done using the GIMP, not Photoshop. ?? Thank you for your kind words!

ZenPress integrates ZenPhoto with WP, similarly to the way you can use Gallery2 with WordPress via WPG2. It’s mainly for adding thumbnails directly from your ZenPhoto page. I use it, in particular, for the “Featured” section of the front page. It’s developed by Digital Meadows.

I am going to check out ZenPhoto, thanks. I have wanted to do WPG2 for Gallery2 for a long time, but the 1 time I tried it, it was tricky to get it integrated (we finally did, but it just wasn’t as easy as I hoped.) One of my fears has been choosing a photo plugin, and then if I decided to switch to another plugin method later it would bork all my jpeg links, so I hesitated.

Note my new adverb, “Photoshoppily”. It can mean, “as if it were ps”. Lolz.

The main reason I’m writing back (other than to bump the thread so others view your design), is about that courier font, which doesn’t look sharp in my Firefox. Have you considered using the Headline Images plugin by Coldforged? You could use this to render your titles in any font on-the-fly, and you can also use it for static text like permanant headers. I would not use it for your Footer, simply because you probably want search engines to read your footer text.

Yeah, I used Gallery2 for a bit but soon switched back to ZP. ZenPhoto is extremely light and quick. It’s not as feature rich as G2, but it’s also nowhere near as bloated and slow. It has some pretty cool features of its own though as well.

Haha, thanks for the bump. I hadn’t looked at that plugin, actually. I’ll check it out. There’s also sIFR, which I’ve never used before. We’ll see. The site’s still got some growing to do.

If you’re very SEO-concerned with your titles then sIFR is supposedly the way to go. For me I find the headline plugin by Coldforged is a thing of beauty and simplicity, to let you use any font – any shadow – any size – any color combination. I can seriously imagine your site with the nav-font used on the headlines in a different color.
