Hope this isn’t too simple-minded. After about a year I returned to my very simple WordPress blog (rondoaward.com), to update it. I downloaded 4.4.2 as suggested..

I wrote and edited a very simple NEW POST — a headline, some text and an image — saved it as a draft and then hit PUBLISH.

It did not appear at the top of the blog, as I expected, but instead showed up as a link at the bottom of the old post, under heading Next Post.

When I clicked on Next Post I was returned to the top of the original post.

The original post is about the 13th Annual award. I want to top it with the NEW POST about the 14th Annual Awards.

In no case have I seen the NEW POST published, though the text and code appears in the edit mode.

I’m at a loss. I have no plug-ins to speak of. Just simple WP.

    Any help appreciated!

    david

@bukge We understand that you’re trying to help, but we request that you please offer that help here. Instead of just linking to a page on your site, please simply copy/paste the relevant information into a reply here to contribute to this searchable database of answers.

@rondo1234 Sorry for the interruption, would you please provide us with a link to the post that failed, as well as a link to the page you expected it to appear at the top of?

I completely understand, but the point is these forums are for support, not for directing traffic elsewhere.

If you provide an answer here, it serves to help others searching for the same problem.

We allow linking offsite if it’s a solid fully detailed tutorial which specifically answers the question, but not if it’s just a general troubleshooting guide which may or may not help.

If you choose to provide support here, we do ask that you please provide that support here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Helping_Out

It’s all about helping the community.

Thanks James. Do you mean post the links here? Won’t that open my WP dashboard etc. to anyone who clicks?

Or can I email to you?

    thanks again

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

No, I don’t want any Dashboard links.

    I want:

    1. A link to the post on the public site, the post which did not appear where you intended it to.

    2. A link to the page on the public site where you expected the post to appear.

    (@rondo1234)

    Ah. OK thanks.

    1) Here is the link to the page I am trying to update:

    https://rondoaward.com/rondoaward.com/blog/?p=168

    2) The post I am trying to have appear on top of that is titled Coming Sunday: Ballot for 14th … But it does not publish so I have no link.

However at the bottom of the page linked above (1), is the Next Page link to the post I’d like to appear. When I click on that, I get a longer link with a new p=224, added.:

    https://rondoaward.com/rondoaward.com/blog/?p=168/?p=224

When I click on that, though, the original page appears.

    If that makes sense.

    thanks again.

https://rondoaward.com/rondoaward.com/blog/?p=168 is a post, not a page, you can’t make another post appear on it.

Your posts appear at https://rondoaward.com/rondoaward.com/blog/ when published, including https://rondoaward.com/rondoaward.com/blog/?p=224

Yes I see. I’m a bit dizzy on difference between posts and pages, but thanks.

The home link should be to the blog, obviously. I will try to restructure it all. Hopefully.

Thanks and don’t yell if I ask for help again. Much appreciated.
