• When I start a new post or edit an existing post, I have the new post window open, and as I’m typing in the window, the text automatically wraps to the next line when it’s about two-thirds the way across the window.

    Can’t seem to find out why.

    Any help would be great. Thanks.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    I’ve done all of the above, and this is happening on all of my blogs, even the new installs that I did today.

    Here is a screen shot that shows it: https://bit.ly/tbSkiB

    I’m at a total loss.

    If it is happening on new, vanilla, installs, then it must be an issue with your browser/computer. Have you tried using another browser? Another computer?

    I have also tried going into the full screen editing mode, and you can see in this image how the width is restricted:

    But on another blog that is also on 3.2.1 with the same plugins, the main post window is okay:

    Remembering that I’m having this same issue on the last 3 blogs I’ve installed… all on the same server as the one that is working above. I’ve tried deactivating all the plugins, totally deleting them… made sure all the settings are the same as the one that is working.

    I’m stumped!

    I’m using the same browser for the one that is working, and have the one that is not working in another tab of the same browser. I’ve also tried in Firefox too. All latest versions of each browser.

    possibly caused by the editor-style.css:

    html .mceContentBody {
    	max-width: 584px;
    }

    Well I was using the twenty eleven theme. As soon as I installed one of the other themes from the appearances tab, it’s working fine.

    As soon as I did a test post that worked, I saved that and then went back and re-activated twenty eleven, and then went back to my draft post, and the edit post window was small again, on multiple browsers, even after the caches were cleared. Is this an issue with the twenty eleven theme?

    I’ve also noticed some differences on two of my blogs. Both are running the latest 3.2.1, but one has been going for a while and has constantly been upgraded, whilst one is a brand new install of 3.2.1.

    If you look at these screens, they have different features:

    Writing settings on new install: https://bit.ly/w1csih
    Writing Settings on older install: https://bit.ly/uuk7sX

    Media Settings on new install: https://bit.ly/u7HTtm
    Media settings on older install: https://bit.ly/rumU7w

    You can see the difference in the yellow square.

    Given it’s the same version of WordPress, why would these differences exist?

    Writing settings: One blog is using a theme that supports post formats whilst the other is using a theme that does not.

    Can’t see any difference in the Media settings.

    There is more text in one of the media settings images, inside the yellow highlight box I did.

    Ah – I see it now. again, I’d guess that this is due to the different themes. The second blog’s theme has set the maximum image width (as recommended) via it’s functions.php file.

    Thanks.

    I’ve just installed a few more themes, and the post window works fine in all of them. As soon as I re-activate the twenty ten or twenty eleven themes, the post window is restricted in width as per my original post… you can only type half way across the screen. Not sure why this is.

    It’s almost certainly being restricted by the twenty ten or twenty eleven theme’s editor-style.css.

    yes, I believe so too;
    that’s why I mentioned it a while ago: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/new-post-window-issue?replies=14#post-2459248
