• Hi there,

When I try to do a new post with photos, using an embed link from smugmug, I get this response: 403: Forbidden You don’t have permission to access this resource.

I get this same response both when I try to preview the post, and when I try to save the draft.

-The image embedded from the url does show up in my post when drafting, and it does show up when I initially insert it from the url.

-The url link is public and does work on its own: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-DNzNFkH/0/65874f2c/X2/i-DNzNFkH-X2.jpg

    Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks. I was not using an embed block, I am still using the classic editor. But I just switched editors and tried it with a smugmug embed block and it said “Sorry this content could not be embedded.” And at the top of the page it says: “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.”

Hmmm… that sounds like a smugmug problem. I wonder if they’ve changed their embed stuff recently. But, to be sure, this may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

Thanks. I disabled all plugins and switched to a twenty* theme. Now it will show me a preview of the post (as opposed to the 403 page) but it removes the image, and does not retain my title, just writes “Auto Draft” instead. This time I added the image directly from my media library, instead of from smugmug.

At bar at the top of the page still says: Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.

It doesn’t work on my test site either. Nor can I add it as an image. I think you should contact SmugMug support to see if there’s something that needs to be done there.

Well, it’s happening even if the image is coming from my media library. Any other sources that would explain the:?Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.

What does TOOLS -> HEALTH CHECK say about things?

Did this just start to happen (as in, was it working properly before?), if so, what has been changed/updated/added that might cause this behaviour?

Have you tried changing the permalink structure to “Pretty Permalinks“?

Is the “site url” consistent (https <-> http) with the settings? You can check this in the settings (note, do NOT just change that setting, just check for consistency with the actual ).

And perhaps file/folder permissions on the server are not set properly. You can find this in the Health Check summary.

Let us know what you find!
