your theme’s css doesn’t seem to clear the floats;

try adding .hentry{clear:both;} to style.css of your theme.

Thanks for the help. I am very inexperienced in this, so forgive the ignorance but can I add it anywhere to style.css or does it have to be a specific place?

it can go anywhere (within the syntax of a stylesheet, and obviously not into commented areas, etc.)
– out of organisational reasons you could add it at the end of the stylesheet, or near the .entry-content styles

Could you perhaps help with another issue I am struggling with? I would like to create subpages on a particular page. But I find that the appearance of the subpages is very unattractive. I would like to have the subpages appear as a drop down menu. Is there anyway this could be achieved? Thanks
